Bombs, bomb making substance recovered from Savar ‘militant den’

Police recovered huge quantity of illegal bombs and bomb-manufacturing materials, jihadi books and a laptop from a suspected militant den in Namagenda area of Savar, on the outskirts of the capital, on Friday night.

Bomb disposal team will conduct drives in the two suspected militant dens Saturday morning, said Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) ADC Zahid Hossain.

Police cordoned off two houses in the area suspecting those as militant hideouts on Friday.

A team of CTTC unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) along with Dhaka police cordoned off the building around 7:30pm, said Ashraful Azim, additional superintendent of police in Dhaka district.

Later, the CTTC members detained a woman and rescued two children from the ground floor of the house.

Bedsides, another team of CTTC unit along with Dhaka police surrounded another building owned by Shakib, a banker, 200 yards far from Anwar’s house around 9:30pm, said additional deputy commissioner of the CTTC unit Zahid Hossain.

Two suspected militants, including Monir, fled away cutting window grill of the ground floor after getting information of the siege of Anwar’s house, claimed the law enforcers.

The law enforcers found a suicide vest and bomb making ingredients from a room of the second floor on the under construction six-storey building while another room was found locked, said Zahid Hossain.

Meanwhile, the CTTC members and Dhaka district police also besieged a cosmetic factory that was used as a militant den, said senior assistant police super of Savar Model Police Station Mahbubur Rahman, adding that two alleged militants of the factory ran away from the den.
