Bullet-hit security member of Ganabhaban dies

A member of Special Security and Protection Battalion (SPBn) unit of police died at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) after sustaining bullet injuries while on duty in front of prime minister’s official residence Ganabhaban early Saturday.

Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) sources said police rushed SPBn's Nayek Atiqur to the hospital at around 12:30am in critical condition with bullet injures on his chest, where he later succumbed to his injuries at around 1:30am.

Policemen with Atiqur said he was shot near the mosque beside the north gate of Ganabhaban at around 10:45pm on Friday. However, it was not clear how he got shot.

SPBn-2 police superintendant said it is still not clear whether the incident was a terrorist attack, an accident or an attempted suicide or not.
