Eid bonus within 20th Ramadan: BGMEA

Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) on Monday said Eid bonuses will be given within 20th Ramadan.

BGMEA's vice president Mohammad Nasir said this after the 33rd meeting of the crisis management core committee at the office of the Department of Inspection for Factories and Establishments in the city.

Nasir said, "The situation of the garments sector has worsened. Despite an average 13 per cent growth in the sector over the past decade, the last 10 months has experienced a 2.21 per cent export growth."

"We are going through a bad time. We will try to keep workers happy during the Eid by providing their bonuses."

The BGMEA came up with this announcement a month before Eid-ul-Fitr.

Labour leader Lima Ferdaous, who attended meeting, said most of the time the garment workers were given their salaries and bonuses just before Eid and they do not get time to do any shopping for the festival. Thus, she demanded bonuses and outstanding overtime allowance within 20 June.
