'Students' attraction towards science increases: Nahid

Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid Friday said the number of students in science group has increased as the government has been implementing different plans putting highest emphasis on science education.

"The government makes all-out efforts to encourage the students to receive science education. As a result, total number of students in science group (SSC and HSC levels) has increased," he told the prize giving ceremony of Science Olympiad 2017 at Dhaka University (DU) Curzon Hall auditorium here.

DU Vice-Chancellor Professor AAMS Arefin Siddique, Bangladesh Academy of Sciences (BAS) Secretary Dr Mesbahuddin Ahmed and Olympiad Coordinator Dr Noim Chowdhury addressed the function hosted by BAS. BAS vice-president Professor Kazi Abdul Fattah chaired it.

The minister said not only the number of students in science is increasing but also the quality is improving. 

"But we are yet to reach the standard that we desire," he added.

The minister said the government is working tirelessly to impart global standard education to the country's students as they can cope up them with the world.
