Covid-19 cases reach 97,869 with 77 new cases in Rajshahi

A total of 77 more people were tested positive for Covid-19 in seven districts of the division on Tuesday, taking the caseload to 97,869 since the pandemic began in March last year.
The new daily infection figure is showing an upward trend compared to the previous day's 62, while on Sunday the infection number was 30, which was the lowest-ever since the second wave of the pandemic hit the country around six months back, Dr Habibul Ahsan Talukder, divisional director of Health, said.
Meanwhile, the recovery count rose to 93,639 in the division after another 85 patients were discharged from the hospitals on the same day.
The death toll reached 1,658, including 683 in Bogura, 312 in Rajshahi with 188 in its city, and 172 in Natore, as two fresh cases of fatality were reported during the period, Dr Talukder added.
Besides, all the positive cases for Covid-19 have, so far, been brought under treatment while 22,543 were kept in isolation units of different dedicated hospitals for institutional supervision. Of them, 18,853 have been released.
Meanwhile, 80 more people have been sent to home and institutional quarantine afresh while 93 others were released from isolation during the same time.
Of the 77 new cases, 25 were detected in Rajshahi, including 24 in its city, followed by 14 each in Chapainawabganj and Bogura, 10 in Sirajganj, nine in Pabna, three in Joypurhat and two in Naogaon districts.
With the newly detected patients, the district-wise break-up of the total cases now stands at 27,740 in Rajshahi, including 22,348 in city, 5,609 in Chapainawabganj, 6,363 in Naogaon, 8,299 in Natore, 4,581 in Joypurhat, 21,419 in Bogura, 11,265 in Sirajganj and 12,593 in Pabna.
A total of 1,12,277 people have, so far, been kept under quarantine since March 10 last year to prevent the community transmission of the deadly coronavirus (COVID-19).
Of them, 1,09,228 have, by now, been released as they were given clearance certificates after completing their 14-day quarantine.
