Germany has seen the largest regular rise in coronavirus cases in more than three months as European countries are struggling to stop the spread of infections.

Over 1,200 cases have been reported in Germany in the last 24 hours. Officials said the increase was due , in part, to people coming back from holidays.

This came as Germany cautioned against non-essential trips to parts of Spain, BBC reports.

Meanwhile, in 24 hours, France had 2,524 new incidents, the largest daily rise since its lockdown was lifted in May.

Germany has reported more than 9,000 coronavirus-related deaths since the start of the pandemic.

Spain is facing the worst incidence of coronavirus infection in Western Europe. In total, Spain has reported more than 326,000 cases-the highest number in Western Europe and the 11th highest in the world.

On Wednesday, Greece recorded 262 new cases of coronavirus, the highest daily count since the beginning of the pandemic.

The nation has now had 216 deaths and a total of 6,177.
