Two soldiers were killed and another one was injured as a military helicopter crashed overnight Tuesday in the Algerian province of Naama, some 700 km southwest of capital Algiers, local media reported.

The Algerian navy helicopter crashed on a farm in Hamr el Ain during a reconnaissance mission. It lost control after hitting a high voltage electric post, local eyewitnesses were quoted by Ennahar TV channel as saying.

The injured soldier has been taken to a nearby hospital.

No official statement concerning the incident has been issued by the Defense Ministry so far.

Algeria has seen several crashes of military aircraft in the past three years, the most serious of which was a C-130 Hercules aircraft crash in February 2014 that left 77 servicemen dead.
