Main accused killed in Faridpur ‘gunfight’

In a reported gunfight with police in the Rathkhola Lanchghat area of Faridpur City on Sunday night, a man who allegedly murdered a mentally challenged girl after raping her was killed.

The deceased was identified as Yasin Molla, 22, Moni Molla's son hailing from the district's region of Goalchamot Warlesspara.

Bellal Hossain, Faridpur Kotwali Police Station sub-inspector, said acting on a tip-off, a drive was conducted by a team of law enforcers and arrested at 2:00 am.

Yasin's associates, sensing the presence of law enforcers, opened fire on police men, forcing them to act in self-defense, he said.

The police recovered Yasin's bullet-hit body after the gunfight and rushed him to Faridpur Medical College and Hospital where he was declared dead by duty surgeon, the SI said.

The SI claimed three members of the police were injured in the gunfight as well.

Yasin and his friends took away the mentally challenged child Fatema earlier on Thursday and murdered her after being raped.

Police later retrieved Fatema's body from near Telegram Office.
