4 ‘cattle lifters’ beaten dead in Noakhali

Four suspected cattle lifters were beaten dead at Uttar Kachhapia village in Subarnachar upazila early Thursday.

Identities of the deceased could not be known immediately.

Locals caught a number of people along with a pickup van in the area around 2:30am, said officer-in-charge Nizam Uddin of Charjabbar police station in Subarnachar.

The villagers then beat four of them to death as the suspects tried to flee the scene, OC added.

Agitated locals also torched the pickup van.

On information, police recovered the bodies and sent them to Noakhali Medical College Hospital morgue.

Locals meanwhile beat two more men suspected to be the members of the cow lifting gang.

Police also rescued the injured and sent them to Noakhali Medical College Hospital for treatment.
