Ruling Awami League has threatened to take legal action if BNP does not withdraw the legal notice sent to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Publicity and Publication Affairs Secretary Hasan Mahmud reveal their next course of action while addressing a press conference at AL President Sheikh Hasina's Dhanmondi political office in Dhaka on Wednesday evening.

Earlier, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has sent a legal notice to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, asking her to apologise for making ‘baseless and defamatory’ remarks about her assets abroad.

Khaleda’s counsel and BNP joint secretary general Barrister Mahbubuddin Khokon sent the notice by post on Tuesday.

BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir disclosed this at a press conference at the party’s Nayapaltan central office early in the morning.

In the notice, Khaleda demanded unconditional apology from the PM for her remarks against Khaleda Zia and her family members within 30 days.

Otherwise, Khaleda will take legal steps to sue the Prime Minister for ‘damaging’ her reputation and image.

Earlier on December 7, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at a press conference voiced her discontent as the mainstream media did not run any report on Khaleda Zia’s ’assets in Saudi Arabia’.

According to some media reports based on the information by Global Intelligence Network’ and ‘Canadian TV channel The National, anti-corruption investigation in Saudi Arabia revealed that Khaleda and her family members have assets in that country.
