Four held over attack on Ghoraghat UNO

Four people were arrested at Dinajpur in connection with a criminal assault on Ghoraghat Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Wahida.

They were arrested by members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and police in joint drives from Hakimpur and Ghoraghat Upazila district of Dinajpur early Friday, including key accused of the attack.

The arrested were identified as Asadul Haque, 35, son of Amzad Hossain of Osmanpur village under the same Upazila, leader of Sramik League's Ghoraghat Upazila unit, Jahangir Hossain, convener of Ghoraghat Upazila Jubo League, Masud, president of Jubo League union unit, and Polash, Ghoraghat Upazila Parishad night guard.

They have been arrested by law enforcers reviewing CCTV footage of UNO residence.

Tipped off, a police team from Hakimpur, Birampur and Ghoraghat police stations and Rab members conducted a joint drive at the Hili area of Hakimpur Upazila in Kaliganj about 4:50 am and arrested Asadul, said Wahid Ferdous, Hakimpur Police Station officer-in-charge.

He was later brought to RAB district office in Rangpur.

RAB has also arrested Jahangir Alam on another drive in the district's Ghoraghat Upazila.

The duo broke into Thursday's house early hours and one of them was wearing PPE, said Rangpur Area Devdas Bhattacharjee's Deputy Inspector General (DIG).

Policing, RAB and intelligence agencies began huge search for the attackers soon after the incident.
They gathered CCTV footage and concluded that two people went into the house and carried out the attack.

Wahida Khanam, Ghoraghat's Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO), was seriously injured early Thursday in an attack by miscreants at her home in the premises of Upazila Parishad.

Her dad was injured in the gruesome attack, too. They were taken to Hospital and Rangpur Medical College.

The UN was later airlifted by a Bangladesh Air Force MI-171SH helicopter from Rangpur to Dhaka.

She was admitted to the National Institute of Neurosciences & Hospital, Dhaka.
