Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Malik said Ghoraghat UNO Wahida Khanam, who was seriously injured as a result of an attempt on her life, doesn't need to be sent abroad for treatment now.

After visiting the UNO in the hospital on Sunday morning the minister came up with the observation.

"It seems to me that her (Wahida) care is possible at home as doctors offer her best treatment at the National Institute of Neurosciences and the Hospital," he said.

Mentioning that the UNO is having a bit of trouble moving her body's right side due to her head injury, the minister expects it to heal within a few days.

Hospital doctors earlier said Wahida 's condition is now safe.

"She is now in the Intensive Care Unit ( ICU)," said Dr Badrul Alam, the hospital's joint director.

They will have their condition observed until Monday morning. If the condition remains stable it is transferred to Step Down Unit (SDU).

More decisions will be made by a medical board on Sunday, he said.

Wahida Khanam, Ghoraghat's Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO), was seriously injured early Thursday in an attack by miscreants at her home in the premises of Upazila Parishad.

Her father Omar Ali also sustained injuries in the gruesome attack. They have been brought in to Rangpur Medical College and Hospital.

Later, the UNO was airlifted from Rangpur to Dhaka by a Bangladesh Air Force MI-171SH helicopter.

She was admitted to the National Institute of Neurosciences & Hospital, Dhaka.
