Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opus ‘Padmavati’ is embroiled in a web of controversies, and there seems to be no end to it.

Ranveer Singh essayed the role of Allauddin Khilji – the second and the most powerful ruler of the Khalji dynasty – in the film.

After the shooting of the film was wrapped up, there were reports that the 32-year-old had to seek medical treatment to get out of his character.

Recently, Singh expressed his thoughts on Twitter by sharing a photo and captioned it: ‘Losing my religion!’ reports the Indian Express.

While it could have been a reference to the American alternative rock band REM’s song — Losing My Religion from the album Out of Time — people were miffed with his words and began criticising him.

Some said that he shouldn’t have said it publicly even if he felt it, others thought it was a reference to the fact that he wasn’t able to get out of the character.

Ever since he posted it, his tweet has garnered more than 600 retweets and 9,900 likes on Twitter and has become the talk of the town.

Many people took offense after reading his tweet and slammed him on the micro-blogging site.

But, several others came to his defense by saying that it was just the lyrics of an REM song. However, the trolls still expressed their displeasure even after they got to know it was just a song. ‘These words were not needed at this time.

This tweet could have been worded differently,’ one user said, and another one commented: ‘Koi baat nahi … Aisa hota hai… Jab itne sanskaar character (Khilji) me 2 saal tak ghuse rahoge toh religion kya insaniyat bhi loose karte jaoge. Koi nahi ghar wapsi hamesha ho sakti hai… Psychiatrist ne kya bola BTW?’
