‘Doob’ competes in Moscow film fest

Bangladeshi filmmaker Mostofa Sarwar Farooki’s film ‘Doob’ (No Bed of Roses) will compete in Russia’s 39th Moscow International Film Festival (MIFF).

The first official press conference of the 39th Moscow International Film Festival, organised at Stand Art Hotel in Moscow on 1 June, announced the names of films, including the joint venture film by Bangladesh and India, competing in the festival.

The unreleased film has been selected for competition in the main section of the festival along with 10 other films from nine countries.

Bangladesh, India, Russia, Germany, Korea, Japan, Finland, Argentina, Spain, Denmark and China have got place in the main competition category.

MIFF, Russia’s biggest and most respected film festival will run from 22 to 29 June this year.

The first 11 films that will be included in the festival’s competition were announced during the press conference.

Internationally acclaimed Indian superstar Irrfan Khan, who acted in Hollywood productions like ‘Jurassic World’ and ‘Life of Pi’ besides many Indian blockbusters, played the lead role in the film “Doob”.

He also co-produced the film.

The cast also include Nusrat Imroz Tisha, star of Farooki’s ‘Third Person Singular Number’ that was Bangladesh’s entry to the 2011 Oscars and of ‘Television’ that was Bangladesh’s entry to the 2014 Oscars. Parno Mitra (X: Past Is Present) and Rokeya Prachy (The Clay Bird) also include the cast.

Bangladeshi production house Jaaz Multimedia produced the film alongside India’s Eskay Movies with Khan’s IK Company on board as co-producer.

Jaaz will also distribute the film in Bangladesh.

Farooki’s film “Television” closed the Busan festival in 2012 and won the Grand Jury Prize at the 2013 Asia Pacific Screen Awards.
