Lionel Messi spoke of his great rival Cristiano Ronaldo and said that he was missing the Portuguese in action week in week out in Spain after Ronaldo’s move to Juventus.

La Liga also buffed up their reputation, thriving on the already existing Real Madrid and Barcelona rivalry with the battle between two of the best players of this generation.

"I miss Cristiano," Messi told FM Club 947 in Argentina. "Although it was a bit difficult to see him win trophies, he gave La Liga prestige."

The draw for the ongoing season of the Champions League panned out in such a way that Juventus and Barcelona cannot play each other unless they both progress to the final. Messi said that Juventus would be a favourite to win the title with Cristiano in the side.

"Juventus are a great candidate to win the Champions League since the arrival of Cristiano, and the match against Atleti must have given them a lot of confidence."

Asked who were the best players in the world at the moment apart from him, he replied modestly: "I don't want to forget anyone, but I think that Neymar, [Kylian] Mbappe, [Eden] Hazard, Luis Suarez and [Sergio] Aguero are the best.”

"I didn't mention Cristiano because I put him aside from the list with me,” he added.
