Young Tigers show early form in warm-up match

The Bangladesh U-19s batters showed early form as they got their New Zealand tour off to a winning note crushing Canterbury Invitation XI by 146 runs in a warm-up match held today (Friday) at The Bert Sutcliffe Oval ground at Lincoln in New Zealand.

The youth side opted to bat first after winning the toss, amassed a mammoth total of 388 from their allotted 50 overs, courtesy of a 73-ball 102 from opener Tanzid Hasan – an innings containing 13 fours and two sixes – and fifties from Tawhid Hridoy and Shahadat Hossain.

A late blitz from Shamim Hossain, who blasted 42 off just 14 balls, took Bangladesh to 388 for 7. Following rain, D/L was used applied and a revised target was reduced to 344 in 45 overs.

Medium pacer Shoriful Islam struck early inroad on Canterbury innings picking up two wickets as the host side never recovered from their collapse and finally they were restricted at 197 for 7. Hasan Murad also claimed two Canterbury’s wickets.

The Bangladesh U-19 team will play the first youth ODI of the five-match series on Sunday (Sept 29) in Christchurch which will be followed by the remaining matches on October 2, 6, 9 and 13.
