A minibus carrying a family to a Mexico holiday beach getaway crashed into a lumber truck on Wednesday and caught fire, killing 14 people, including five minors, AFP reports reported.

Within the burning minibus, many of the passengers became stuck, whose burned shell could be seen impaled on the truck's tail.

The incident took place in the state of Jalisco, on the highway that runs from the native state of Guanajuato to Puerto Vallarta's Pacific beach resort.

During the pre-dawn crash, twelve more people were injured. Two were in severe condition and were airlifted to a state capital hospital, Guadalajara, said state authorities in the emergency.

Authorities said that when the minibus smashed into it, the truck stopped on the side of the road.

"It was a tourist company contracted by a family," said Samuel Flores of the Jalisco State Civil Protection Company, heading to Puerto Vallarta for the holidays.

Deadly accidents occur frequently in Mexico during the Christmas season as highways flood with holidaymakers and revelers.
