Endanger birds, animals recovered at Dhaka airport

Officials of Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) in a drive recovered a total of 202 species of endangered birds and animals from Shahjalal International Airport on Monday night.

The seized birds include 170 pairs of Parrot, three pairs Love-bird, three pairs of Baby-parrot, three pairs of Cockatoo, 10 pairs of Connor, three pairs of Peacock, three pairs of Arona, five pairs of green wing Parakeets and two pairs of Budgerigar.

The animals include two Laman rabbits, said Dr Md Shahidul Islam, director general of the CIID.

The animals and birds were imported without the no-objection certificate from the concerned authorities, the official said.

The price of the birds and animals is around Tk 44 lakh, he added.

“All of those will be released at Bangabandhu Safari Park in Gazipur,” he further said.

Necessary legal actions would be taken against the importuning agencies, he added.
