Mushfiqur Rahim, who was involved in a record third-wicket stand with Mominul Haque during Tigers’ first innings at Chittagong, hopes that the Mirpur wicket will be different from the flat batting track at Chittagong.

The Chittagong wicket produced 1533 runs for the loss of just 24 wickets as bowlers from both teams toiled on a track that held together for all five days as the match ended in a draw. Mushfiqur Rahim said that the Mirpur wicket needs to be different and suggested that the bowlers could have done better in the first Test. Having beaten sides like England and Australia in recent home series, Mushfiqur was confident that Tigers were capable of winning the last Test against the Lankans to win the series and believed that taking 20 wickets is key to getting a result.

“The bowlers did not do too well. We need to pick up 20 wickets in the second Test in order to win the Test match and I hope the Mirpur wicket would be different to that of Chittagong.

Mushfiqur struck a brilliant 92 against Sri Lanka in the first innings at the Chittagong Test and said that he will be looking to capitalize on his reduced role in the side and focus on his batting.

“There was less responsibility since I am not the captain and I'm also not the wicket-keeper anymore. So, batting will be my main focus for the upcoming Test.”
