BD move up the ICC Test rankings to number 8 for the first time

Bangladesh have jumped to number eight in ICC Test rankings for the first time as Windies slip down to ninth position. India are still the number one Test team in the world with South Africa behind them.

International Cricket Council published the annual update of the rankings on Tuesday. Calculations of teams’ performances have been done starting from the 2015-16 season to 2017-18.

Since the start of 2015, Bangladesh have won three Tests in 18 Tests, drew five and lost ten of them. Those wins came against England, Sri Lanka and Australia. During this period, Windies managed five wins out of 28 matches including 18 losses.

Bangladesh had 71 points before the annual update. With four points added they have 75 points which is just 11 points less than no.7 Pakistan’s. Windies lost five points (72 to 67).

India have consolidated their top spot with 125 points, gaining four points from the annual update. South Africa lose five points and are 13 points behind them. Australia, New Zealand and England are respectively positioned third, fourth and fifth.

Bangladesh had several opportunities of taking over Windies in the rankings but they could not reach the eighth spot on any occasion. Since 2015-16 season, the Tigers have playes eight Test series and drew five of them.

2. South Africa – 32 matches – 112 points

3. Australia – 33 matches – 106 points

4. New Zealand – 23 matches – 102 points

5. England – 36 matches – 98 points

6. Sri Lanka – 31 matches – 94 points

7. Pakistan – 17 matches – 86 points

8. Bangladesh – 16 matches – 75 points

9. Windies – 22 matches – 67 points

10. Zimbabwe – 8 matches – 2 points
