Rhodes, the 53-year-old, played 11 Tests and 9 ODIs for England. He played county cricket for Yorkshire and Worcestershire. He has 12 centuries in 440 first-class matches and one hundred in 477 List A games.

The Yorkshire-born coach spent 33 years with Worcestershire County Cricket Club. He played for them during 1985 to 2004. He coached the county and was director of cricket till 2017 season.

He was sacked from the post after the club’s all-rounder Alex Hepburn was arrested. Hepburn was charged for two counts of rape. It was learnt that Rhodes didn’t inform the club about the matter. He also lost his role as coach of England U19 at the World Cup.

As Rhodes is free now, he is available for Bangladesh coaching. A report on kalerkantho.com claimed that Gary Kirsten, the internal auditor of BCB, proposed his name. The board president Nazmul Hassan Papon did inform the media that the new coach would not be someone whose name is familiar.

Rhodes has previously worked with Shakib Al Hasan, who played for Worcestershire in 2010 and 2011.

BCB had three names in their short-list for next head coach. There were one Englishman, one South African and one Australian in the list. Kirsten proposed BCB to appoint coaches for different formats but the country’s governing body is desperate to announce a new head coach’s name before June 15. It has been eight months Bangladesh are without a hear coach.

Bangladesh are currently touring India to face Afghanistan under interim head coach Courtney Walsh. Their next assignment will be bilateral series against Windies in the Caribbean and the USA in July-August.
