Tiger's new spin bowling coach Daniel Vettori reaches Dhaka

Newly appointed Bangladesh spin bowling coach Daniel Vettori reached Dhaka on Friday.

A flight, carrying Vettori, reached at Hazrat Shah Jalal International Airport this morning.

After reaching here, he is scheduled to join the national preparation camp of the Tigers ahead of their challenging tour to India next month.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) on July 27 announced that it has appointed New Zealand left arm spinner as the Tigers’ new spin bowling coach.

He will guide Bangladeshi spin bowling side till ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in Australia October–November next year.

Vettori's contract is until next year's Twenty20 World Cup in Australia and the 40-year-old will be available to the team for around 100 days during their preparation.

New Zealand’s celebrated spinner Vettori replaced Sunil Joshi of India, whose contracts ran out with the completion of the World Cup in England and Wales in July.

In January 2018, Vettori, the most capped ODI player for New Zealand, bid adieu to the 50-over format, completely ending an 18-year career in the game. Earlier, Vettori also retired from Tests and Twenty20 cricket.

After making his ODI debut in 1997 at the age of 18, Vettori went on to become not just the most capped Kiwi player but also the team’s leading wicket-taker with 305 scalps at an average of 31.71 from 295 games.

He also had the distinction of being part of five World Cup squads, picking up 36 wickets in 32 matches, including 15 in the recent edition.

In his 113 Test appearances, Vettori took 362 wickets to be New Zealand’s highest wicket-taker and be only the third cricketer after Kapil Dev and Ian Botham to take more than 300 wickets and score 4,000 runs. Vettori tally Test runs stands at 4531 runs.

After succeeding Stephen Fleming as captain, Vettori led New Zealand in 32 Tests and 82 one-dayers till 2011. He also played 34 T20 internationals, grabbing 38 wickets.
