India's fast-paced bowlers enjoy a rare moment in the sun after combining to dismantle Bangladesh in the Indian soil maiden day-night test.

Ishant Sharma, Umesh Yadav and Mohammed Shami took all 19 wickets from Bangladesh to drop in Kolkata, a rare occurrence on the pitches of the sub-continent where spinners usually reign.

This exceeded the mark of 17 wickets taken in 2017 against Sri Lanka by pacemen in a home test, also at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

India defeated Bangladesh by an innings in the first pink-ball test for both sides, and 46 runs to win the two-match series in just over two days.

"India's pacers would always call the shots on the table, but Bangladesh must be frustrated by their batsmen's lack of commitment and battle," former India batsman VVS Laxman wrote on Monday in The Times of India.

Skipper Virat Kohli was praiseworthy for his pacemen and said the key to keeping them in top shape was to handle the workload.

"They've acquired more experience, now they're bowling together well," Kohli told reporters after the one-sided victory on Sunday was sealed by India.

"They take ownership of their own training, their own health and contact is very straightforward... We want you fresh for Test Cricket, don't think about anything else."

And they also feel secure that if they don't play, we've got replacement bowlers to come and do the job. So that bench strength also helps us a lot. "Despite the lack of yorker specialist Jasprit Bumrah, who recovers from a back stress fracture, the three quicks were on a roll.

Shami and Yadav took 24 wickets in last month's South Africa 3-0 Test whitewash between them in India.

Spinners Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja bowled just seven overs in total against Bangladesh, which fell for 106 and 195.

"When the spinners hardly roll their arm in the test match, it doesn't often happen in India," Indian fast bowler Irfan Pathan wrote on Twitter.

However, in January and February, when India will play two tests in seamer-friendly New Zealand, the real test for the Indian raps will come.
