During last week's first test, New Zealand police were asked to investigate racial abuse directed at England cricketer Jofra Archer, following information provided by officials from New Zealand Cricket.

After studying CCTV footage, listening to audio, interviewing spectators and getting material on social media, NZC chief executive David White said they filed a complaint with police.

Archer lamented being racially abused last week at Mount Maunganui during the first Test against New Zealand.

In a social media post he said it was "disturbing hearing racial insults today when struggling to help save my squad, this week the audience was awesome except for that one man.

" White said the information collected by NZC did not identify the responsible person conclusively, but there was ample evidence to bring the police into the inquiry.

"What happened to Jofra was reprehensible and led to a general upgrade of security in all our international sites around the area of racial abuse," he said.

"If the responsible person ever reoffends, we agree that we have sufficient information to tie him to the Bay Oval case." White said that if the perpetrator were eventually found NZC would seek to ban the person from all its international facilities for a long time.
