Indian skipper Virat Kohli got irritated and rushed from the dugout to the boundary after a contentious run that ended Ravindra Jadeja's mid-stay on Sunday at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai in the first ODI against West Indies.

The incident occurred in the 48th over when Jadeja attempted to snatch a single and hit Shivam Dube after Kedar Jadhav's dismissal. Roston Chase picked up the ball and hit the stumps with a timid hand. It was a direct hit, but Jadeja seemed to have made his ground comfortably, and there was no appeal for runout from the West Indies.

Nor did the umpire Shaun George, who had a close look at the pitch, go for a media reference. Chase made a weak argument, but he was persuaded that his crease had been made by Jadeja. But the video replays revealed that when the bails came off, Jadeja was out of the crease.
West Indies skipper Kieron Pollard asked the umpire to send for the third umpire soon after seeing the replays. The umpire asked if he could still go for a third umpire call to match referee David Boon and got the same permission. The third umpire saw the replay again and set the red light on fire.

As the whole scene played out, a miffed Virat Kohli was seen behind the boundary ropes. Subsequently, India coach Ravi Shastri was also upset with the verdict in the dugout.

Harsha Bhogle, who commented at the time, questioned whether an umpire could wait that long for the third umpire to be signed because it was taken after the players had already seen the replay. "When I was from the batting team, I would be very sad," he said.

Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant slammed comfortably for half centuries as India's middle order came to party to help the side post 287/8 in 50 overs against the West Indies on Sunday's first one-day international at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.
