Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) director and owner of the BPL franchise Barisal Bulls Abdul Awal Chowdhury yesterday apologised for his comments against Bangladesh Test captain Mushfiqur Rahim during a recent interview with a private TV channel.

"I am involved with sports. I was a player and I love players. As an owner of a franchise when I learnt that Mushfiqur would leave my team it upset me. I said all those things in the heat of the moment and I could not understand it would hurt Mushfiqur. I am really sorry for that," Awal said while speaking to reporters at Mirpur yesterday alongside BPL governing council member secretary IH Mallick.

Mallick told the reporters that it was a misunderstanding and added: "Mushfiqur is also taking it sportingly and we talked with him and we think the issue has ended here. Our colleague, board director and Barisal Bulls owner Bhulu Bhai [Abdul Awal Chowdhury] made some comments about Mushfiqur and there was some misunderstanding with that.

The comments hurt Mushfiqur a bit. We sent him [Awal] a letter regarding the issue and he replied. We discussed with everybody including Mushfiqur and Awal is sorry for that," said Mallick.

Meanwhile, the issue had cause an uproar in cricketing circles after Mushfiqur had an emotional breakdown while he was talking to reporters a few days ago regarding this particular TV interview, where Awal had raised questions about Mushfiqur's captaincy and discipline.
