73.4 overs Aus 216/9 - Agar goes down the wicket to Mehedi Hasan and drives it through cover for four. Beautiful use of the feet. He didn't fully get to the pitch of the delivery but the timing was immaculate.

Australia trail by just 55 runs against Bangladesh after some late order flourish from Agar and Cummins. Mehedi and Shakib Al Hasan have returned to work in tandem after the rain delay.

70.2 overs, Aus 200/9 - Agar brings Australia's 200 in style as he dispatches a half-volley from Shakib Al Hasan for four.

68.3 - Shakib Al Hasan breaks the partnership at last. An arm-ball sneaks through off the inside edge of Pat Cummins's cover drive, ricochets off the pads and canons into the stumps. Shakib's fourth wicket brings jor for Bangladesh after 25.2 overs of toil.

3:09 pm - Only a nine-minute delay as the players take the field.

2:58pm - It has thankfully turned out to be a brief shower and the sun has peeked out again. The covers are off and with just two minutes left for the players to come back on, the delay will likely be a minimal one, given Mirpuir's excellent drainage and the mild nature of the shower.

And, as if waiting for the signal for tea, the heavens open soon after the players leave the field and the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium is currently under covers. It rained in the evening session on the first day too, but it passed soon, resulting in just a 36-minute delay. Let's hope today is the same.

Tea break: 67.0 overs, Aus 193/8 (Agar 22 not out, Cummins 25 not out) - For perhaps the first time in the Test, Australia can say they have won a session as they have scored 70 runs for the loss of two wickets in the afternoon session. Bangladesh will drink an uneasy cup of tea as the first-innings lead continues to shrink. Shafiul's drop of Cummins with the score on 167 is looking more and more costly now. 

End of over 65, Aus 188/8 - A bit of frustration has crept in as Agar and Cummins have resisted Bangladesh's charge for nearly an hour and a half now. Mushfiqur Rahim's captaincy also seems to be reverting to a defensive mindset, with deep point pushed back. 

64.6 - Ashton Agar slog sweeps Mehedi Hasan Miraz for a six over midwicket, and with that Pat Cummins and Agar record Australia's highest ninth-wicket stand of 45 against Bangladesh, going past Adam Gilchrist and Stuart Clark's 39-run stand in the first Test at Fatullah, 2006.

63.4 - Shafiul Islam bowls a short one at Pat Cummins's pads and it touches something on the way to the keeper. Umpire Aleem Dar gives it out, but Cummins reviews and the replays prove him right as the ball just grazed the thigh pad. 

60.5 - Pat Cummins hits Mehedi Hasan for a tucked four to fine leg and brings up hig highest Test score of 24, going past his previous highest of 21.

End of over 60: Aus 175/8 - Ashton Agar and Pat Cummins hold firm as they look to bat till tea and give Australia a fighting total. 

End of over 55: Aus 167/8 - Bangladesh keep the runs in check as Ashton Agar and Pat Cummins seek to reduce the deficit, which is now 93.

53.6 overs, Aus 167/8 - Cummins goes after Shakib again but this time mistimes it. Ball takes the leading edge and swirls over cover fielder Shafiul, who manages to reach it but cannot hold on. Another chance goes abegging.

Shakib looks pretty dissapointed. That was an easy catch but Shafiul just couldn't manage to hold on.

53.4 overs, Aus 166/8 - Pat Cummins opens his shoulders and hits Shakib over mid on for six.

Bangladesh should bring on a pacer to finish off the Australian tail. The two batters out there have been pretty cautious so far.

52.1 overs, Aus 159/8 - Taijul turns one sharply and ball lands in the rough and flies away between the keeper and slip for four. Byes signalled by the umpire.

Agar and Cummins are trying to survive this onslaught from Bangladesh spinners.

46.6 overs, Aus 150/5 - Australia reach 150 mark after Cummins pushes at a Mehedi Hasan delivery and ball takes a slight edge and goes to backward point while the batmen run a single.

Pat Cummins is the new batsman at the crease. Bangladesh have gained the upper hand in this match but they need to take the remaing two wickets quickly.

43.1 overs, Aus 144/8- Maxwell tries a shot too many. He dances down the wicket against Shakib Al Hasan but the witty Shakib flights the ball adequately and pusjes it a bit wide off the stumps where Maxwell has to reach out. Maxwell misses the line of the delivery completely and is stumped by Mushfiq.

Maxwell is batting on 17 and Ashton Agar is on 2. Mehedi Hasan has started the second day brilliantly as well. He has figures of 3-36 from his 15 overs. There is sharp turn and bounce on the wicket.

40.6 overs, Aus 136/7 - Agar tries a lusty hit down the ground off Mehedi. Ball flies high up but falls safely. The fielder running back to take the catch was unable to make it on time.

36.6 overs, Aus 124/7 - Mehedi Hasan strikes again! Wade has no answer for Mehedi, who bamboozles him with a drifter that holds it's line. Shouts of leg-before wicket is approved by the umpire witha nod as Australia lose their seventh wicket.

Great session for Bangladesh as the players go for Lunch in the second day of the first Test.

Bangladesh have fought really well since the partnership between Matt Renshaw and Peter Handscomb. The Tigers have managed to pick up three wickets in the morning session.

Handscomb and Renshaw put on a 69 run partnership before Taijul broke the partnership with the wicket of Handscomb. Renshawa followed soon when he was removed by Shakib Al Hasan.

35.1 overs, Aus 117/6 - Soumya makes up for his earlier drop as this time Shakib gets the edge of Renshaw's bat. Beautiful flighted delivery teases and tantalises the batsman and Renshaw edges it to Soumya at slip who fumbles the catch first time but grabs onto it in his second attempt after ball looped in the air from hitting his hands.

34.1 overs, Aus 110/5 -Soumya Sarkar drops Renshaw at slip after Taijul's delivery catches the edge.

32.3 overs, Aus 102/5 - Handscomb walks after he went to the backfoot to counter Taijul, misses the line of the delivery and you won't get an easier leg-before decision than that. Taijul makes the breakthrough.

Fizz is getting some good movement on his deliveries. Their is a hint of reverse swing as he beats Renshaw all ends up.

Australia bring up their 100 as Renshaw tucks Taijul to square leg for a single.

Taijul Islam gets one to land in the rough outside the off-stump. Ball stays very low and hits the pad before there are appeals from the Bangladesh players. 'Not Out' says the umpire.

Australia have gone well about rebuilding their innings. The score is 97/4 after 30 overs.

Mustafiz has been able to create some doubts in the minds of these two batsman. The two batsman out there however are good players of spin. They have latched on to Taijul in the 29th over and both batsman used the sweep effectively to score boundaries off him.

Peter Handscomb has an unusual stance. He seems to be having some difficulty reading the cutter. He has shuffled across his stumps unusualy. Perhaps to counter for Mustafizur's yorker?

Drinks are over! It's time for the Fizz to take the stage. The left armer starts with one shaping away from Renshaw before trying his trademark cutter in only the second ball. Renshaw gets beaten for flight but adjusts well.

It's drinks on the second day of the first Test between Bangladesh and Australia.

Taijul Islam has been brought into the attack. Taijul starts with a full pitched half-volley and Matt Renshaw punishes it accordingly. Then Renshaw flicks one that was drifting down leg and the Aussies run three.

Australia are 83 for four after 25 overs. Handscomb and Renshaw are on 28 and 32 runs respectively.

Renshaw latches onto one from Shakib and drives him through mid wicket for four. One ball later he does it again, picking his spot to lift the ball over mid wicket and the ball goes for four. Handscomb showing some positivity as he puts some pressure back on Bangladesh.

Not playing with the bat has been a dangerous ploy in subcontinent pitches. Mehedi gets one to hold it's line and there is a shout for lbw. Ball pitched on line but possibly drifting wide. After some consideration Mehedi and Mushfiqur Rahim decides against a review.

Matt Renshaw and Peter Handscomb are at the crease for Australia. It's been a difficult morning and Mehedi Hasan Miraz has been able to put enough pressure on skipper Steve Smith to put him into a rash decision.

Renshaw edged Shakib in the 18th over but the thick outside edge falls short of Soumya Sarkar at slip. Ball races to the boundary for four. This are important runs for Australia as they look to overcome early morning nerves.

At the end of 15 overs Australia are 44 for the loss of four wickets. Captain Steve Smith was removed by Mehedi Hasan.

Shakib Al Hasan and Mehedi Hasan have been bowling in tandem after Shafiul Islam's early spell in the morning. Mehedi  has so far picked up two wickets so far and Shakib Al Hasan got one.

11.6 overs, Aus 33/4 - Steven Smith charges down the wicket to Mehidy. Smith tries to play across the line and pays the price.
