Comilla Victorians win comfortably

Comilla Victorians coasted to a comfortable eight wicket victory against Chittagong Vikings courtesy of some fine batting by Jos Buttler and Imrul Kayes.

Opener Liton Das was in aggressive mode right from the word go. Liton struck a 14-ball 23 before he was removed by Subashis Roy in the fifth over.

Buttler was in sweet form as he picked up 16 runs from a Sunzamul Islam over – hitting two four’s and a massive 101-metre six.

Buttler departed in the 14th over with the score on 100 and Marlon Samuels was in hand to finish the job for the Victorians as he hit Taskin Ahmed for 17 runs in the 17th over. Samuels struck a 18-ball 35 which finished off the chase in just 17.2  overs.

Imrul Kayes, who is a seasoned veteran for the Comilla outfit, came in at one down and remained unbeaten on a 31-ball 33 a knock which provided stability in the middle overs.

Earlier, Chittagong Vikings failed to capitalize on a great start by openers Luke Ronchi and Soumya Sarkar.

The openers picked up the scoring rate early on in the innings as Vikings scored 54 runs in the first five overs.

Ronchi hit Dwayne Bravo for consecutive sixes in the fifth over as Bravo conceded 15 in his very first over. Ronchi fell in the sixth over after a 21-ball 40 to Mohammad Nabi.

Nabi, Mohammad Saifuddin, Rashid Khan and Bravo put the squeeze on the run rate and the pressure told when Sri Lankan Dilshan Munaweera tried to scoop a slower delivery from Bravo and fell in the 12th over.

Soumya, who had been giving the innings some solidity then tried to scoop a slower delivery from Saifuddin and got himself bowled in the 14th over with the score at 106. Soumya scored a 33-ball 38 with three four's and a six.

Saifuddin then removed Anamul Haque in the same over and Vikings never really recovered from the slump. Saifuddin was the pick of the bowlers Comilla bowlers ahe picked up three wickets for 24 runs in his four overs.

Misbahh-ul-Haq had been struggling to get going and fell to Al Amin Hossain after struggling to five from 11 balls.

Vikings eventually made it to 143 runs for the loss of seven wickets in their 20 overs.
