Ruyel Mea hogs limelight with record-feat in NCL

Sylhet fast bowler Ruyel Mea recorded the best bowling figure by a pacer in the National Cricket League (NCL) history as he claimed 8-26 to help Sylhet rule Chattogram Division on the first day of the league’s final round game at Shaheed Chandu Stadium in Bogra on Saturday.

Ruyel eclipsed the record of Talha Jubair who scalped 8-35 in 2012 NCL.

In the face of Ruyel’s vicious bowling, Chattogram was dismissed for 106 after which Sylhet ended the first day of the NCL Tier-2 game on 186-5, taking a 80 runs lead.

Amite Hasan was the highest scorer for the side with 55 while skipper Alok Kapali made 41. Asadullah Galib was batting on 28 with Rahatul Ferdous on 8.

Fazle Mahmud hit a brilliant 141 as Barishal Division ended the first day on 338-6 against Dhaka Metro at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in another Tier-2 game.

Opener Shahriar Nafees came up as ably support for Fazle with 44 runs. Before the bails were drawn for day one, Salman Hossain was batting on 69 while Moin Khan was on 38.

Taskin Ahmed and Asif Hasan took two wickets apiece for Dhaka Metro.

Taibur Rahman came up with a sterling 110 as Dhaka Division scored 273-7 against title aspirants Khulna on day one of Tier-1 NCL game at Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium in Khulna. Khulna needs just a draw to lift the title.

Standing on that equation, Khulna bowlers came up with fire but Taibur resisted them. Opener Abdul Majid was the other notable scorer with 66. At the end of the day, skipper Shuvagata Hom was batting on 56 with Nazmul Islam on 5.

Abdul Halim was the most successful bowler for Khulna with 5-27.

In another Tier-1 game at Shaheed Kamruzzaman Stadium in Rajshahi, Rangpur Division reached 263-8 against Rajshahi Division at the end of day one.

Suhrawardhi Shuvo led the charge with 105 runs while Ariful Haque made 57. Tanbir Hyder was batting on 26 with Rishad Hasan on 1.

Delwar Hossain snared 4-55 while Mohor Sheikh grabbed 3-53.
