19,399 tonnes of Aman paddy, rice to be procured in Jashore

Food department has set a target of procurement 19,399 tonnes of aman paddy and rice from eight upazilas of the district this season.

The department will procure 8,155 metric tonnes of paddy and 11,244 metric tonnes of rice, a food official said.

District Food Controller Office sources said the government will procure 8,155 metric tonnes of paddy at a cost of Taka 28 per kg from card holder farmers in the district and 11,244 metric tonnes of rice from listed millers at a cost of Taka 40 per kg.

Of the total, 1,708 tonnes of paddy and 2,726 tonnes of rice will be procured in Sadar upazila, 1,180 tonnes of paddy and 2,611 tonnes of rice in Sharsha upazila, 453 tonnes of paddy and 3,037 tonnes of rice in Abhaynagar upazila, 799 tonnes of paddy and 701 tonnes of rice in Jhikorgacha upazila, 569 tonnes of paddy and 477 tonnes of rice in Keshabpur upazila, 1,061 tonnes of paddy and 417 tonnes of rice in Bagharpara upazila and 940 tonnes of paddy and 793 tonnes of rice will be procured in Chaugacha upazila of the district.

District food controller Md. Abdur Rahman said paddy and rice will be procured as per the government rules. The procurement drive has started from last November 7.

There are 313 listed millers in the district and the procurement drive will start after the agreement with the listed millers soon. Paddy and rice procurement drive will continue till February 28 next year.
